Benton Modern Display

Richard Lipton and Dyana Weissman designed this classic display type to be a companion for newspaper text face Benton Modern. The versatile family revives M.F. Benton’s work for American Type Founders including turn-of-the-century Century Expanded and references Century Schoolbook in the italics. Multiple weights in four widths endure in headlines while elegant fine lines are ideal in magazine or corporate situations.

36 Styles: Light, Regular, Semibold and Bold in Normal, Condensed, Extra Condensed and Compressed widths. Black and Ultra in Normal width. All with italics.

ITC Franklin

In 1902 American Type Founders’ release of Franklin Gothic introduced Morris Fuller Benton. In 1979 Victor Caruso, International Typeface Corporation, increased the series to four photocomp weights, Light, Medium, Bold, & Black, all with italics. In 1991 David Berlow added four widths, Normal, Condensed, Compressed, & Narrow. Berlow has completed his definitive revision, a single new series, ITC Franklin.

48 Styles: Thin, Light, Medium, Bold, Black and Ultra in Compressed, Condensed, Narrow and Normal widths. All with Italics.

Rocky

For years Matthew Carter wondered why no Latins with Bodoni proportions had been developed, or why no Bodonis had Latin serifs. He solved this problem by drawing Rocky Regular and Bold with italics to fill the gap, then expanded the family with the aid of Richard Lipton. It provides a sharp spot of typographic “color” as signature headletter series for Roger Black’s redesign of the Rocky Mountain News.

40 Styles: Light, Regular, Medium, Bold, and Black in Compressed, Extra Condensed, Condensed, and Normal widths. All with Italics.
