Author:

Aus dem Pressetext: The book offers an insight into the newcomers’ talent and passion, as well as a foretaste of the future of documentary storytelling. World Press Photo believes in top-quality photojournalism that can inform people, open their eyes to new perspectives, and inspire understanding of the world around us. The second edition of the Next series, Next#02 embodies this in the fresh outlook shown by young photographers.

James Wellford, USA, senior photo editor Newsweek and one of the masters of the 19th Joop Swart Masterclass, writes in the foreword of Next #02: “By telling stories with images, the photographer participates in an act of trust. Photography is a process that always remains unfinished, a never-ending enquiry, and something that when it works makes a powerful image indelible. Photographs do not end stories. They open them. They are moments to engage and absorb, which allow us to begin and continue a meaningful discourse with, and understanding of, the world.”

Wellford continues: “The photographers in Next #02 show us that documentary vision deserves trust because it honors the subjects and situations it encounters. A remarkable range of subjects appear here, made by an immensely thoughtful and creative group of photographers. Twelve distinct stories. Twelve distinct presentations of trust.”
