A New Biannual Gloss Magazine exploring Type, Typography, and Culture

2020 has been a crazy year. But, thanks to all the amazing talent of the design community, it has also been visually breathtaking. From the influx in experimental serifs to the development of stunning new type systems, a tonne of incredible, unique branding and identity projects to fun lockdown experiments, designers, and creatives from all over the world presented their talent, visions, and their dreams. Finally, also the universe of publications is delighted with another gem—TYPEONE Magazine—Issue 01, which is a brand new magazine from the UK.

The first Issue of the new biannual gloss magazine uses type as a defining approach, in all its different forms, as a gateway to cast fresh new perspectives on design in our industry and to expose the stories, processes and people who are yet to be heard or amplified. Exploring tech, innovation, design and culture across the world, as a publication, it hopes to become a critical lens on the intersections of global and industry affairs within the context of type and design. TYPEONE Magazine—Issue 01 was created to pave the way to new discussions, spotlight the incredibly talented bank of young creatives (whilst also including established creative leaders to share those all-important pieces of advice and life experiences with you) and transform the way we view our industry landscape.

TYPEONE Magazine’s key aims are:
– To create a new valuable source of creative information that is current and relatable
– To discuss and explore topics of type through creative fields that generates excitement about the industry
– Look to the future of the creative industry, spotlighting the next generation of talented people in the field

Another goal is to engage and bring together the type and design community with something new and exciting. There are so many interesting stories to explore with type and it’s important to document it all in a printed format—it becomes a permanent part of the industry. Plus with a lot more businesses pivoting to digital, print is something that is still important to the publishers and want to continue to advocate.
