The Best German Book Design 2025

For almost 60 years, Stiftung Buchkunst has awarded an annual prize to the 25 most beautiful German books, selected by independent juries through a multi-stage process. The accompanying catalog itself is just as outstandingly designed and meticulously crafted as the 25 titles it presents. Designed by Studio Tillack Knöll in collaboration with artist Ann-Kathrin Müller, The Best German Book Design 2025 is dedicated to the theme of archives

The 430-page publication gathers the books honored by the Stiftung Buchkunst and frames them within a broader visual and conceptual narrative. The photographs explore scenes and atmospheres within the German National Libraries in Frankfurt and Leipzig—spaces where books are viewed, studied, and preserved. The result is a visual meditation on the act of archiving, linking the physical presence of books with their long-term memory.
