Werkschau Design & Architecture 24/25
At the end of the winter term 24/25, the graduates of the Design and Architecture departments of the Peter Behrens School of Arts at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf will present their projects during the Werkschau Design & Architecture 24/25.
Around 250 young designers and architects specializing in Architecture, Interior Design, and Civic Design as well as Communication Design, Exhibition Design, New Craft Object Design, and Retail Design are looking forward to your visit.
Take a look at the graduation projects on the Werkschau’s website.
The inspiration for this year’s graduation exhibition design lies in Japanese calligraphy and the traces of worms that have eaten through paper and scrolls. Those traces often form an unintended visual symbiosis with the written characters. They seem to complement, mirror, or complete them. While the calligraphy remains on the surface, the worm also penetrates into the depths.
Initially, pathways within the university were traced. Random encounters in the corridor can lead to a change in direction. Parasitic and symbiotic states can be interpreted both as symbols of relationships within the university and in relation to modern communication. We know less and less about who is writing, where information comes from, how it works, and the influences and power dynamics from which it has emerged. Likewise, we know little about the bacteria in our bodies, yet we have learned that we need these microbes to survive. The linear approach to reading and perception is long outdated. We must read in layers, penetrate them, accept randomness, and knowingly or unknowingly form symbioses with writers of all kinds—machines, humans, worms…

Sensory Dining Experience
This introduces a dining experience replicating a psychedelic journey’s sensory aspect, without the use of psychedelics. Through projection mapping, binaural sounds, and other techniques, all five senses are heightened without actual psychedelics. Each dish, tied to a specific substance and its rituals, explores ancient practices from Ancient Egypt, Tibet, Aztec, and Vedic cultures. Ingredients, visuals, and immersive transformations evoke these experiences.

Hady Bady
Hady bady is a children’s counting-out rhyme, used to select a person in games. Growing up, there were different variations of the rhyme and looking into the history of the rhyme, one found out that these different variations were due to the different geographical iterations depending on the region. Although, we used to fight on having one correct variation of the rhyme, one finds that the different iterations need to preserved as part of our collective memory box.

brought her both pain and a sense of identity. This conceptual portrait series examines
three key aspects.
The etymology of the Cairene dialect
“The etymology of the Cairene dialect” is an illustrated A1 publication that traces back and analyzes the etymology, origin of words, of the Egyptian vernacular used in Cairo. It explores the connections to historical, political and social contexts of Cairo through the lens of language, by looking at how those factors influenced our day-to-day conversations. It highlights the underlining tight links with the past that have remained constant in the Egyptian dialect over thousands of years.
