Time on Tapestry / الزمن على البساط

‘Time on Tapestry’ celebrates the intricacies of traditional Islamic art forms through a contemporary interpretation of the Islamic calendar. Each month’s visual draws inspiration from references that reflect its themes and meaning, expressed through typography & patterns. The calendar repurposes old carpets, significant to Middle Eastern culture, which were cut, bleached, and printed on the back. A smaller accompanying manual details the art styles, carpet sourcing, and the creative process.

Betrayal

Ahmad’s editorial illustration is a deeply personal piece, It captures the devastating impact of betrayal—a cruel act that shatters trust and leaves one paralyzed, struggling to make sense of a painful reality. Through vivid expression, the piece reflects the reopening of old wounds, a time of loss and silence, and the struggle to rebuild trust.

Nine Lives, Nine-to-Five

Cairo is famous for many things, but for Ahmad, it’s the countless stray cats. One evening, while enjoying shawarma, a stray cat ambushed him, sparking a creative idea. He illustrated the cat as a 9-to-5 office worker, who had just wrapped up a day of scouting to feed her kittens, now treating herself to dinner and enjoying human company. Each segment of the poster reflects phases of a typical workday, blending humor and heart, capturing the resilience and charm of Cairo’s feline residents.
