Folded flyer for the Creative Business Award – Kreativsonar. Printed in two flashy fluorescent colours. The letters are literally floating on the water like swimming hoops, partly overprinted for a nice contrast and depth.

HBKsaar Yearbook 2020
Every year the University of art and design in Saarbrücken, »HBKsaar« releases a yearbook with the students best work of the last year. From all the different disciplines like product design, communication design, art, media art and design. It’s been published for the annual exhibition. Colour plays a vital role in the HBKsaar’s colourful identity.
Due to the pandemic sadly the exhibition was cancelled, so the book this year becomes literally the exhibition. Entering all the many rooms directly on the cover the visitor can navigate through the book like going from room to room accompanied with a bold and vivid colour palette as a warm welcome to the HBKsaar.
Slanted Type, Sierpinski Chromatic
1. Slanted Type: a colour font based on optical illusion. The font name – slanted – refers to that particular illusion. Demo posters A: Is it slanted? B: Type, C: Character set.
2. Sierpinski Chromatic: another colour/layered font based on an isometric fractal pattern. Chaos is non-random. It has a structure: fractal symmetry. My work harnesses the beauty of fractals and infused into typography. It has two layers for separate colours. The third colour is the same as the background. Demo posters A: Mercury, B: Xenon, C: Symmetry

All the advantages of Christianity & Alcohol
This 4x2m Mural features an advertising-quote for the substance SOMA from Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World”. It was handpainted and lettered in four pastelly, slightly tacky colors to underline the drug-induced, fluffy carelessness that plays a big role in the novel.
HBKsaar Yearbook 2018
Every year the University of art and design in Saarbrücken, »HBKsaar« releases a yearbook with the students best work of the last year. From all the different disciplines like product design, communication design, art, media art and design. It’s been published for the annual exhibition. Colour plays a vital role in the HBKsaar’s colourful identity. There is always a different colour theme. This time reflex blue and fluorescent orange, a psychedelic and eye-catching neon colour combination. A force of attraction like a vortex. It absorbs you in a dark hole like Alice in the rabbit hole.

Floral emblems
Every Nation has a flag. And a flag is needed for recognition worldwide. It’s used as a symbol, a signaling device, and sometimes to show what the nation is most proud of. We’re proud of our wild nature and colorful flowers.
MonoTool – Aspekte des Rasters
»MonoTool« is an interactive artwork and design tool. It invites collaborators to play with Lena’s stylistic elements. The tool is an endless source of output and creates a coherent visual regardless of the current user. It strips the user of the ability to influence it’s aesthetic deeply while proposing a challenge to experiment within specific limitations. »MonoTool« is an »open« artwork, meaning it only exists at the moment a composition is laid down. The interactive artwork was created within a project, that collects aspects of the grid, with the goal to draw new inspiration from this topic.

Mutation Proceedings
Away from the consideration of individual life, however, there is a super construct that leaves generations behind in aeons. In this work, mutations and the traces of life at different stages during evolution are interpreted. In doing so, the concept of mutation is removed from its biological origin and considered in a reduced way: (An-) Organic substances and material compounds are subjected to external influences such as supplied energy or forces and driven to change or even decomposition.
The (internal) transformation of materials into various states also represents an optical transformation that could provide an interpretation for the evolutionary developments in nature.

Buchclubsticker
Some time between the first and the second lockdown I started a bookclub with my friends. Its something I always wanted to do, but never managed to organize. I designed these stickers to promote bookclubs and encourage others to start their own
Canada Post: Covid ArtVan
Canada Post commissioned Andrew Lewis Design to design a new stamp to thank employees across Canada thanking them for their service during 2020/21 with the pandemic. On a whim, Andrew suggested they apply the graphic “Thanks/Merci” plus the secondary artwork to the postal vans across Canada. And the CEO said “YES!” And so, Canada now has a fleet of trucks across the nation that now brighten the days of weary Covid Canadians. For a conservative, Government corporation to say yes to this silly idea is where the true magic is to this story, not necessarily with the actual design!

Reaching Out of Reach | Play
In light of the social disconnection caused by the global pandemic, Span imagines a new visual platform that is a collaborative art experience. Digital canvases display simple compositions created by a group of virtual performers. The aesthetic takes visual and conceptual inspiration from the art movement of Suprematism (Russian: Супремати́зм)— which emphasizes “the supremacy of pure artistic feeling.” Suprematism was practiced during the world’s previous global pandemic around 1918.
Reaching Out of Reach is a digital design research initiative conceived by Span during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the new socially-distant way of life. As humans, we need to connect. How can we design
No Borders / Just Colours
My work represents an utopic/dystopic flag, a mix of various flags coloured with “wrong” palettes. The lower part of the flag’s gone through a liquefying and then drying process. So the flag is depicted after this tumultuous, bizarre fabric metamorphosis, giving the result of an exhausted look, expressing excitement, but also tiredness. In this way, the drive for life and freedom meets a bitterness feeling. But the message is there, clear and unequivocal: no borders, let’s just admire the colours of the world. Let’s face the fact the we are all equally different, but always bond to each others. Let’s break mental barriers: this poster is the symbolization of that difficult process.
Reaching Out of Reach | Touch
As we quarantine, we feeling disconnected with those who we care about most. Span imagined an interface that communicates touch through light, animation, and warmth, allowing loved ones to share an embrace even if they are miles apart. As people touch the sphere, the location, duration, and intensity of the gesture is transmitted to a matching sphere in real time.

Young woman’s manifesto book
The book is about the importance of not fitting into the ideas or expectations of society. Instead, try to fit into yourself. Get to know yourself; find out what you feel good at; and stay true to it. Above all, stay free.
I chose orange color for the cover and inside the book. It’s like an orange sea. Orange color is associated with meanings of joy, encouragement, change, determination, freedom and expression. The are handwritten poems with abstract illustrations.
Der Erbsenzähler
Der Erbsenzähler (bean counter). Watercolor. Illustration for a childrens book citing old, almost forgotten proverbs and offering both the original and a fictitious meaning. The beancounter sits in his dungeonlike hideout and tinkers with his precious green peas which are soon going to become the worlds most sought after food.
Brilliant Together
Brilliant Together is a statement on the power of unity. Our voices and actions have the potential of reaching greater heights collectively than when working independently. Together, we can elevate one another as individuals and form a synergy that radiates brilliance. Let’s be brilliant together.
Ateliers Solstices, Musical Education for Kids, Brochure
For this reader differently coloured papers were used for a playful child-friendly look but also for an easy b/w-xerox-printing. Even the client can reprint the brochure in every copyshop. Also the format is adapted to that DIY-production-approach: A4 folded vertically. 8 sheets = 32 pages in total.
The colours also define and seperate the different sections in the brochure.
And because this educational program is for children, we’ve modified the client’s corporate font for a playful, slightly quirky expression.
