Seequenz.me

Seequenz.me is a chromatic composition system. An interactive sequencer that reconsiders the standard music notation.

Based on Color-Tone analogies, each of the 12 notes of the western chromatic scale is directly related to a color within the visual spectrum.

The user can choose a scale to work with and only the colors (notes) included in the scale will be displayed.

we will not give up

During lockdown, the „Künstlerhaus Mousonturm“ appeared to be deserted. To counteract this, the house was covered with posters in various color variations. The posters are based on a quote from Pavol Liška (Nature Theater of Oklahoma). They are intended to draw attention to the effects of the pandemic, but above all to give joy and courage in a desolate time.

Mr Wink’s Winkels.

Hallo.

Love 20/20

This is a spin on the Love logo designed by Robert Indiana in the 60s. The past year has knocked some of the innocence out of all of us. But in the sobering aftermath, hopefully the changes that need to be made can be made. Or at least we can move in the right direction. Our skin is our bond, not our difference.

We’re Open

The poster emerged as part of a guest semester at HGK Basel, Switzerland. Students initiate so-called “Posterslams” with different keywords on a regular basis. The posterslams title in summer 2020 was “Open”. At that time, COVID-19 started hitting refugee camps in Greece and many demonstrations took place. These marches inspired me to emphasize the regarding political decisions and the “openness” of european society.

Mash Maker

The Mash Maker project is a constraint-led system where hip-hop songs are visualized in real-time. The design process is the same length as the song’s duration, often resulting in quick and improvisational outcomes. Additionally, only the top Google image result of the song’s title and Times New Roman are acceptable. These constraints, or rules, sharpen the perspective governing the process and stimulate play within the limitations.

Verfärbt, verfahren.

As a child of Chinese immigrants living in Germany identity was always an issue. It’s like speaking fluent horse and understand horses from a weird perspective, but not really feeling like anything other than bipedal. As I moved away from home my mother gave me a collection of Chinese books – many of which included paintings. It has been some years since I visited my family in China – various reasons. But I have found a bit of home in those books. And I added some colours from my memories of China.

Pepita Plakat

This poster was my contribution to the poster competition of the «Mineralquelle Eptingen AG» back in 2017. The task was to design a poster for Pepita in honour of Herbert Leupin, a well-known Swiss Graphic Designer.

Barrios (La Perla, Petare, La Comuna 13…)

Professor Ricardo Santonja contacted me to share a project to disseminate artistic currents influenced by reggaeton. This would be inspired by the Consul of Spain in Puerto Rico, Tomás Rodríguez-Pantoja, whose opinion is that reggaeton makes everyone sing in Spanish as pop did with English. spread in the form of Pop Art, a new art form is emerging that we can call Reggaeton Art. Different artists have turned our gaze to this trend, aware of its weight in contemporary artistic expressions.
This series begins to illustrate the 1st Reggaetonart Manifesto. They are the neighborhood of La Perla, in San Juan (Puerto Rico), Petare, in Caracas (Venezuela) and La Comuna 13, in Medellín (Colombia).

Still Naming: De coloribus Matching System

One of the earliest and most extensive lexicons of color terminology, De coloribus libellus, was published in 1528 by Antonio Telesio. In Still Naming, I scribed the original Latin names for twelve colors in ink with a hand-carved edged pen. The watercolor swatches are hand-ground pigments, using the original text descriptions to inspire the color choices. In Photoshop, I continued this classification by matching that color with a Pantone reference, riffing on the idea of trending color swatches, complete with my translation of Telesio’s words.

BLUETS

Bluets by Maggie Nelson

And so I fell in love with a colour – in this case, the colour blue – as if falling under a spell, a spell I fought to stay under and get out from under, in turns.

Bluets is part essay, part poetry. It is a meditation on desire and suffering seen through a blue lens. It tells of new love and then heartbreak, and about the life long obsession by the author with the colour blue. It is a collection of fragments and the ideas are presented in short paragraphs, which winds its way past famous blue figures like Yves Klein, Leonard Cohen and Billie Holiday and quotes Barthes.

My brief was to create something beautiful. I read the text and was mesmerised.

Mix colors and mix shapes to achieve a lively, bustling and modern composition. Between landscape and vanity, the “Mix color and shape” series seeks to merge shapes and colors, lines and curves, to lose sight in a moving universe.

50/50

In Patric Sandri’s works, painting is subject, content and medium at the same time. Colour, image carrier and light are thematised. The painted insides of the stretcher frames reflect onto the picture support, which is then bathed in coloured light. In order to bring honesty to the perception of a pictorial space, Sandri proposes with this work a transformation of the pictorial tool into the actual space, a detachment from painting as panel painting. The painting is to be experienced with increased intensity by the viewer, who participates in the process of becoming a painter through his or her own movement in the pictorial space.

Pool party

In contrast to my series of humble neighborhoods, this work of exaltation of the party and status appears.
2 unique signed and numbered copies are produced in 70x70cm Vitra digital art printing system. The Vitra System is a new museum-approved fine art reproduction technology that uses sublimated mineral inks and vitreous polymers on 1 mm thick aluminum plates.

Zement – Schleifen LP

Zement is a Neo-Kraut Band with a passion for endless Loops, Arpeggios and Drum Patterns – and they like wordplays, especially the ones that make fun of everything concrete and craft related. So their fist live album is called „Schleifen“. It implies action, means dragging, smoothing as well as grinding. But it it can also be a much more playful noun: Loops. So we thought, lets go the colorful path, that matches perfectly with Zement’s euphoric, repetitive live shows! We created a 3d rendering of a „Motorikschleife“, a common toy for small children, that now became the cover artwork. And the Video for the first single is a wild ride on these colorful loops.

Final Countdown

The European Union is crumbling. Euro crisis, bank bailout, refugee crisis, rise of right-wing populists. The European Union is in a tangible crisis. Where do we go from here with the “European peace project”? With my contribution to the Mut zur Wut poster competition, I would like to highlight the status quo of the EU. Without words but with the power of illustration.

Exchange = Education

The foreign language assistant program of the PAD is aimed at student teachers who want to teach a foreign language in the future and enables them to spend several months at a school abroad. To make the program more attractive and visible to the public, I conceived and designed several colorful posters as part of a competition at the Faculty of Design in Würzburg to visually illustrate the benefits of the program and the diversity of participating exchange countries.
