Since Covid-19 and the start of the semi lockdown in Germany I have spent more uninterrupted time with my children as ever before. After a difficult start I settled into the new lifestyle of domesticity and eventually started photographing my children. I had time to observe the ever changing emotions between them, the ebb and flow of love and hate and all feelings in between. Tied together by fate, the sibling relationship can be anything from close to distant, but it surely never is insignificant for other relationships later in life. I look at it as playful experiment for learning how to get along with people. Brotherhood and sisterhood are the very nucleus of any social skill.

Thou shalt love thy neighbour

An honest approach to spread love instead of hate. Every connection we make to other human beings ranges on a scale that goes from the deepest possible love over apathy to the strongest forms of hate and condemnation. In this context my work wants to exaggerate the established claim “spread love not hate”.

Camouflage

coexist, a word, a feeling, we indirectly say to ourselves everyday. We thrive and hope for it to happen. For us humans it is challenging. However, some other living organisms are just born with this blessing of being able to just camouflage, to simply, coexist.

Stay Together Stay Positive!

Exist together, in peace, at the same time, at the same place at these strange and crazy times seems like a common challenge for all of us. We may all be stuck inside, but we can still give a smile to each other to keep optimism and joy. From there I decided to draw an apartment with windows which created using word “together”. Giving positivity to each other and staying together while staying at distance this is what all we need at these crazy times!

Different harmonies

The work focus its meaning on the dot, a dot as a person who lives happy and peacefully with the others, no matters if it is white or black. A dot that alone would mean nothing.
The earth is just a “little dot” the least we can do is to be happy of what we already have and help to each other no matter what.

I chose to upload two different versions of the same idea.
The version 01 is full of “dot faces” living in the same place like the original claim says and I think it is cool how you can focus only on staring at them or trying to read the word coexist. The cleaner version (02), it is less explicit but it can work with the claim I chose, that is another definition of the word coexist.

education

As we spin our way through a global pandemic and now the long overlooked problem of systematic racism in our lives. Whether we know it or not we have contributed in someway.
To coexist is defined as living together in a peaceful manner, but let’s not let peaceful coexistence mask indifference.
You can’t be scared of your own ignorance when it comes to failing to understand the daily existence of someone different to yourself (sexuality, gender, race, age, the list goes on) You must use that fear to fuel your education, your actions and ultimately how you affect others around you.
I would suggest that you cannot coexist and be peaceful without acknowledging together what makes us who we are

Coexistence

The “Coexistence” series is an invitation to awaken consciences for the creation of a world pervaded and protected by equality.

The theme of the first poster is the vital concept of gender equality, while in the second – created after the recent global events and coherently with the spirit of the “Black Lives Matter” movement – is the urgent need to create a society in which people are always treated fairly, regardless of the color of their skin, eradicating all types of racism and discrimination.

Listening is strenght

The ear is the most efficient and, at the same time, the most sensitive sensory organ of human beings.

Our perception of the world is strongly influenced by visual stimuli, and that’s why we often underestimate the role of our ears.

In difficult times like this we often don’t know how to act. In my opinion it is essential to listen to those who have a strong voice but often are overheard.

Face 2 Face

These paintings reflect if the digital age and its ways and possibilities of communication brought us closer together in the end, or just increased the quantity of communication units.
They show two wolves, physically separated but linked through a copper wire. The idea was to have a diptych, which could be hung in two different places, but still stays connected.
The wolf is a recurring character in our works, an antropomorphism to examine human behavior in our late modern society. The shades work, similar like the screens we are communicating through, as a barrier that gives the sender the feeling of security while the recipient is hardly able to decode all the informations.

Icarus

“Icarus has become better-known as the flyer who fell from the sky when the wax that joined his wings was melted by the heat of the sun.”
As fascinating and useful the progress of human civilization is, it might be dangerous as well. “Over-Progressing” may become the cause of our annihilation, like the story of Icarus; who flew so high that the sun melted the wax in his wing.
The sentence written in the artwork is a quote from E. O. Wilson, an American biologist, naturalist, and writer; refering to the myth of Icarus.

Night Wanderings, April/May 2020

Inspired by the Robert Adams series ‘Summer Nights, Walking’ I went for a few late night walks around my neighbourhood in north London. I realised that because of lockdown, I hadn’t been out at dark or taken a single photograph for over a month. It felt eerie and unsettling at first. The images were taken on a housing estate near where I live. The swaying trees framed the pockets of light from the windows, each small square representing domesticity, warmth and hope.

Dystopia?

Being born and raised in a Middle-Eastern country with a dictator government, and seeing all the curroption, censorship, embezzlement, military repressions, poverty and etc. Always makes me wonder, are we living in a “Dystopia?”

I CAN’T BREATHE

A reaction to the horrific execution of George Floyd in plain sight of the world. Hopefully his death will lead to the reset of our relationship with our fellow humans and bring about a larger conversation on equality for all.
