Il ponte silenzioso.

Il ponte silenzioso. by Editors Valentina D’Amora, Nadia Porfido, and Designer Matteo Pulina is a book that gives voice to emotions, after the collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, leaves room for those who have really experienced the trauma, in a raw, real, clean way. A way to keep alive the precious memory of those days, restoring a role to those who directly experienced this tragedy: survivors, displaced persons, rescuers, but also the simple inhabitants of Valpolcevera, the territory where the tragedy occurred and which is tormented every day from the consequences of the collapse. The entire proceeds from the sale of the book were destined for educational projects run by associations and agencies already present in the area.

Everything started from the concept of space: the space that left the collapse of the bridge, the space that conceptually was created within us, the space that will be “filled” by the material reconstruction of the bridge, the space that will be filled with educational projects in the territory of Valpolcevera. The publication gives space to people who have experienced the trauma on their skin. Words want to take back the place, they want to go out, they want to transmit themselves, they want to be free not to be confined. In a world where everyone screams, silence can be seen. The white space offers silence.

I worked with the glyph “&” a symbol of union and connection between two parts, designing a page with six differents “&” for remark the acceptance of the other people.

CO[llag]EXIST 3

An experimental series of black and white collages, designed using everyday things and images we use or see. All three abstract collages aim to send a strong message about coexistence through an alternative way, representing feelings closely connected with poverty, climate change, wars, freedom, human rights, etc.

CO[llag]EXIST 3 is an experimental collage created out of abstract lines made out of black markers. All these lines, aim to represent the thoughts as well as the problems, each human has to think and face during his everyday life. In the end, this can be solved with coexistence and mutual support.

CO[llag]EXIST 2

An experimental series of black and white collages, designed using everyday things and images we use or see. All three abstract collages aim to send a strong message about coexistence through an alternative way, representing feelings closely connected with poverty, climate change, wars, freedom, human rights, etc.

CO[llag]EXIST 2 is an experimental collage created out of images with sunflowers which symbolize adoration, loyalty, and longevity as well as black spray paint which aims to communicate the message that good is most of the times covered with the bad, something which has to be treated correctly through coexistence.

All three abstract collages aim to send a strong message about coexistence through an alternative way, representing feelings closely connected with poverty, climate change, wars, freedom, human rights, etc.

CO[llag]EXIST 1 is an experimental collage created out of old Greek newspapers with articles about violence. The various layers as well as the abstract textures offer an interesting dimension to the artwork. Coexistence is the key when it comes to deal with problems such as violence and wars.

Coexisting contradictions

We are living in a world full of contradictions and inequalities.
A world where the richest 1% own more than half of the world’s wealth, with the other half living on less than $5.50 a day; where every day 10,000 people die because they lack access to affordable healthcare and each year 100 million are forced into extreme poverty due to healthcare costs (OXFAM).
All these inequalities and contradictions undermine the fight against poverty, damaging our economies and societies. We need therefore to rethink our current economic model, in favor of a new humanism, promoting coexistence and equality between people, without distinctions.

self love

Global Grad Show

Design to make the world better: Students from Germany are among hundreds from around the world taking part in Dubai’s Global Grad Show with innovative concepts on how to mitigate the collateral issues of the Corona-crisis. Their seven concepts originate from the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design Kiel, the Hochschule Pforzheim, the Academy of Media Art Cologne, the Technical University of Munich, the Technical University of Braunschweig and two of them come from the University of the Arts, Berlin.

Worldwide, a total of 390 projects by students, post-grads and professors from 125 universities in 40 countries are taking part in the Global Grad Show. The aim of the global initiative by the Art Dubai Group is to develop solutions to challenges in the context of the coronavirus pandemic that are not of a medical nature. The various ideas cover a wide range of disciplines from medical technology to game design. “This initiative and the rapid response it received shows the importance and impact of human creativity and humanity selflessly coming together to provide collective solutions to combat obstacles, no matter how large,” says Brendan McGetrick, Head of Curation of the Global Grad Show and Creative Director of The Museum of the Future.

The concepts put forward by German students tackle important challenges in an innovative way: Erik Mantz-Hansen from the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts, for instance, developed “ClAir Tram.” Its concept of trams equipped with large-scale air purifiers and interiors designed with antimicrobial materials, places air quality and hygiene at the heart of public transport. Georgia von le Fort of the University of the Arts, Berlin, focuses on the topic of food storage. Her “Cooltainers” propose an electricity-free method to stock fresh food. Made from porcelain, they use a natural evaporation cooling effect to keep produce fresh. Other projects from around the world focus on topics like drone-enabled medical testing, smart tattoos that remind about hand washing, and innovative protective gear.

In the first round, Applications were evaluated by a jury including experts in innovation, technology and new ventures, whose input will inform the next assessment phase. For the next phase, Global Grad Show will engage with the students and professors behind these applications to analyze their development requirements, with the goal to identify proposals that can be supported towards testing and implementation. The creator or creators of any selected proposal will be awarded the tuition fee of their current studies, or equivalent scholarship for the department of selected professors along with support for the development of their concept and business building. Which projects will ultimately be supported, will be announced in the third quarter of 2020.

After fertilisation

To exist, although at the same time not to exist.
It is genetically impossible for hybrids to reproduce themselves.
They can perform the sexual act, even though the sexual urge is not strong.
Males are always infertile; occasionally fertile females occur.
Uncommon however not impossible, and with the duty to die in the end.

Allies & Champions 1&2

The “Allies & Champions” collection is for anyone who believes the fight for humanity, liberty and justice is mandatory. It is their proclamation. Join the movement.

Designing this collection I was inspired by Kimberly Williams Crenshaw’s theory of “intersectionality” where systems of oppression– such as racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and belief-based bigotry– do not act independently of each other. Rather these forms of oppression interrelate creating a system that reflects the “intersection” of multiple forms of discrimination.

The Hambach Forest

At first sight it is only a forest.

The trees grow together, they displace each other, struggle for light and yet keep a respectful distance.

The Hambach forest is also a scene of political events. Here the question is being fought over who will be allowed to grow in the future?

On closer inspection of the forest, the deeper one looks into it, the different positions of contemporary society become clearer, spread out and form an almost impenetrable network.

Let’s start from scratch

We are at a turning point. For the first time in 75 years, there is once again the opportunity to start from scratch after the COVID-19 crisis and tackle the major problems: climate change, the environment, discrimination and poverty. It seems like math: what possibilities do you add, subtract, multiply or share with each other to achieve progress in this new society to be made?

Square, Circle, Triangle

Basic shapes, all different but indespensable to form a holistic impression of a complex image. To make a society work and coexist, it is necessary to accept the personal differences and different opinions that make us unique and give more room for the thoughts of others in your own mind.
