Freistil – The Book of Illustration

Call for Submissions

Author: Greta Landmann

For more than 20 years, Freistil – The Book of Illustration has supported and showcased the developments of the graphic illustration scene. The exceptionally produced book serves as a platform for the stylistic range, a launching pad for new talents, and a barometer of current trends and techniques. Over these 20 years, the world of illustration has undergone rapid and intensive changes. New technologies, cultural shifts, and the globalization of the communications industry have contributed to greater diversity, dynamism, and innovation. However, despite its increasingly massive presence, especially in digital media, illustration remains focused on what has always characterized it: helping to present complex ideas simply, sparking curiosity, telling stories, and sometimes even shaping identities. Its individuality and direct accessibility will continue to make it a fundamental component of communication between people.

Three years after the last issue, Freistil 8 will be published at the beginning of 2025 with the best illustrators in the industry and exciting texts on the role of illustration in the current environment. Each illustrator will have a double-page spread featuring their work, contact details, references, and a statement about their personal view of the future of illustration. If you would like to be one of these illustrators and become a part of Freistil 8, please apply by August 31th, 2024!
