Nova Kakhovka

A huge ecological & humanitarian disaster was caused by russia blowing up Nova Kakhovka dam in Ukraine. Over 80 towns were flooded. People lose their homes. Animals in the local zoo died. Natural sites and agricultural resources are destroyed. A nuclear plant was put at risk. Russias’ eco-terrorism needs to be stopped now.

Never again

After the full-scale russian invasion while I was in Kyiv I couldn’t draw for a long time. It seemed to me no matter what I drew, it wouldn’t be enough. These posters were some of the first artworks I brought myself to create then.
Choke on it! is visualization of my wish for russian aggressive imperialism to be finally ended by Ukraine.
Kramatorsk is the city where russian missile hit a railway station. The missile had a writing “for the children!” on it and killed seven Ukrainian children.

Samson 4. 5. 0.

Samson was created for the charity festival KYIV 4.5.0. In Ukrainian military slang 4.5.0 means “everything is quiet”. In my poster everything is quiet, too, although it is a completely different kind of quiet.
Every day I used to pass by this old fountain with a sculpture of Samson fighting the lion in peaceful Kyiv. Now the mythical strongman is shielded with bags of sand by the volunteers to protect him from the russian missiles. Samson is invisible, but he’s still there.

Roman Ratushnyi

This is a portrait of the late Roman Ratushnyi who was one of the student protesters of Maidan, an eco-activist who is famous for the campaign to preserve Protasiv Yar park zone in Kyiv, Ukraine (seen in the map in the background), and a military volunteer who fought the russian occupiers and was killed in combat in the east of Ukraine.

Mariupol, the City of Mary

When I was a child, I saw an image of Virgin Mary holding a heart pierced with a sword at my grandma’s house and it puzzled me a lot. That image got stuck somewhere in my memory for many years. Now the city of Mary – Mariupol in Ukraine – has been brutally destroyed by the russian invaders. Hearing the horrible news about Mariupol, I think of it as that wounded heart from the icon that struggles to keep on beating.

United Inactions

A sharp satirical mockery of inaction at the undermining of the Kakhovka Dam. News soaked with pain and tears of the affected people who could not save themselves. People, animals, nature. Minimalistic but apt poster, which silently says more than some organizations. It refers to a specific tragedy, people appreciate the help from worldwide organizations and in no way deny the importance of their actions.

Identity for Japanese restaurant Ayashi

Japan is a country of contrasts: the small stands next to the large, the monochromatic is replaced by color chaos, and black hair lies on light skin. Therefore, for this corporate identity for the Japanese restaurant Ayashi, we wanted to find a character that would scream in a whisper, to do something simple and completely unique at the same time. This is how how the image of the monkey was born. It is thick and viscous, it is empty in one place, but in another there is already too much of it.

Sensitive Content

This print work is a continuation of my former project, Emojination, which marked the beginning of my career as a designer and digital artist. Emojination was a project from 2014. After a long break, I returned to the tools of Emojination to showcase the current state of Ukrainians, and how the world perceives them through social media.

fortytwomagazine #6—beliefs

It’s impossible not to believe. We all have a view of the world that is reflected in our beliefs. “I believe that” is what we say when we express our opinion. And when someone expresses views that are too far removed from our own values and worldview, we don’t believe them. But that doesn’t mean that beliefs are immutable. Our point of view can change. And similarly, a belief can change us. Did you know that a belief can affect how we perceive pain and that we believe different things depending on whether we are speaking our native language or a foreign language?

The 6th issue of fortytwomagazine is on the topic of beliefs and presents ten scientific perspectives and one artistic angle—this time coming from the artist Daria Chernyshova.

Rage

This work was created for the exhibition called “When everything matters” which was organized by the Pictoric illustrators’ club as part of the international Book Arsenal festival in Kyiv. This work is about emotions, about the indescribable rage and pain that the author feels seeing and experiencing the losses and destruction in Ukraine as a result of the russian invasion.
