In his work, Leon Dekker is looking for a catharsis; the cleansing effect of art.
For his work, Dekker is inspired by logos and lettering of consumer goods and packaging such as fruit crates and boxes, potato labels and cattle feed sacks. He reuses his own imagery, changes it and gives it a different meaning. The familiar and predictable images are given a different story, they have a disruptive effect. Dekker breaks the link with the original in order to ultimately retain an autonomous image.
MAGENTUR paper samples
The task was to show the printing possibilities on various types of paper as a sample collection. I developed a type system showing various challenging aspects of printing. Differently combined they present every papers’ name in various colors. Bound together with a rubber band so it can be used in a scaleable way.
Printed with an HP Indigo 5500 in CMYK+White.

Beats Across Borders
In 2019, I’ve been noticed by Beats Across Borders : a French association which aim is to create parties to help refugees to integrate, wherever they come from. 🙂
I volunteered on this project and create for this association and their parties a bright and colorful visual identity (posters and flyers). I tried to express joy, love, sharing and unity through those illustrations all made by hand : painted, colored charcoal, scanned, and generously risoprinted by a friend called Oscar Ginter, founder of Quintal Editions.
Those are the two last edition #08 and #09.
Due to coronavirus some parties have been deleted, but I can’t wait to create the next #10 edition !

OOSSHA001 – Pitto ‘Panthers on the Roof’
Our first record sleeve and identity for the record label Oossha. The first vinyl release was screen printed by hand in fluorescent yellow with a full colour cat sticker.
Oossha is a Dutch record label. We’ve been working with them since they started in 2018 on their branding, merchandise and each release.
solidartiy has no colour
Colour should not be a factor, that divides, separates and splits society – and though, regarding everyday discrimination it still is a problem we have to face. Colour can be a tool to catch attention, but it’s role is not to overlay the message for pure decoration. It should rather be a tool to unite and create solidarity, no matter what tone it has. Therefore, this work’s colour should be determined by the paper that it’s printed on.

Cihan Tamti — Breakout
We are very happy about today’s release Cihan Tamti — Breakout – 100 Posters Book, that gives you a glimpse into the creative brain of the designer, a boost of ideas, and inspiration for eye-catching design.
Cihan Tamti started treating Instagram like a graphic design gym, and worked on designing a poster every day. Without constraints, he was able to experiment, often creating work that no normal agency would approve. Such freedom of approach allowed him to develop designs with strong, experimental typography, and complex compositions. Unexpectedly, these daily designs ended up winning some competitions and attracting some cool clients along the way, which now gave him the last necessary push to publish a book that combines all his ideas and creations.
Cihan’s Breakout—100 Posters Book summarizes 100 selected posters from the past few years. These posters include free and personal ones, real commission work, exhibition posters, and award-winning posters. But what it makes even more important is that it encourages and inspires to breakout oneself and to start spreading one’s own visual messages.
This project was brought to life through a successful Kickstarter campaign at the end of last year. We would like to thank all supporters for making this possible!

Handouts Dürst Britt & Mayhew
Gallery Dürst Britt & Mayhew was founded in The Hague in 2015. For each of their exhibitions an art critic or curator writes an accompanying interview or an essay. These texts are printed on handouts. They deem it important that visitors can take away something analogue and tactile that contextualises what they have seen. The handouts have a fix format of an folded A3 and produced through risoprinting. A strict grid sytem and typesize (Patron by Milieu Grotesk) is a reaccuring element within the ever changing compositions, colours, forms and shapes. Resulting in unique expressions while maintaining a unity in the overall sequence. The collection consist over fifty handouts so far.

My Dragon
This self-portrait emphasizes the development of self-awareness and the inner conflict that accompany that effort. It’s created using traditional ink with digital elements.
Eyesolation
In the last months I started to challenge me by trying to make one poster a day. Sometimes I just take a song quote and playing around with it. In this poster corona obviously took over and we deal with each other we just the eyes as a connector.
Hall of mirrors
The search for self can at times feel like you are in a hall of mirrors. Realising that the self is illusionary and there is not a centre from where you experience the world means that you can become conscious and experience the world the way it is.
46º Festival Sesc Melhores Filmes
Created in 1974, the Sesc Melhores Filmes Festival is the first film festival in the city of São Paulo and offers the public the opportunity to watch what was most significant on the city’s screens in the previous year.
I was invited by Sesc São Paulo to develop the visual identity of the 46th edition of this festival, using the logo of previous years and designing several pieces of publicity, including the teaser video and the printed catalog of the winners.
Using the language of projection, blurred images are overprinted, while the warm colors bring references to the Brazilian cinema, highlighting its political importance in 2019.
Shlup (1,2,3)
I just sketched around during work on some privat project and thoght this might fit in. The fish is designed by some letters of the font PILOWLAVA (http://velvetyne.fr/).
Hope you like it, if not, please give me some feedback.
Joy (a whole Lotta Love)

Grafikmagazin
The new Grafikmagazin is out now and proves: Print is not dead! Grafikmagazin, as the name proposes, is a German-language design magazine aimed primarily at professional graphic designers, creative agencies, and design students from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and beyond. Every two months, its editorial team presents outstanding work from the fields of graphic design, typography, illustration, photography, design theory, research, paper, and printing on over 100 pages.
When the almost 100-year-old magazine novum – World of Graphic Design was merged with the publication Page in December 2020, the former editorial team announced that by February 2021, they were going to publish a new print magazine of their own. Editor-in-chief Christine Moosmann, deputy editor-in-chief Sonja Pham and art director Tobias Holzmann will remain in their roles, while the former advertising and marketing manager Christian Meier will also take on the position of managing director of the Phoenix Verlag für Grafikdesign. Just like before, their passion for haptics will be central which is why special papers and printing or finishing techniques will continue to be used on a regular basis.
For the first issue, the editorial team selected the Grafik+ theme The digital museum. The exhibition designs and digital solutions they portrayed show how imaginatively and playfully many art and cultural institutions defied the restrictions of the pandemic.
Readers can get to know other creatives in the extensive Showroom section, such as the typographer Marta Bernstein or the graphic icon Paula Scher. It’s purely coincidental that for this issue, the team chose four female designers, but the representation of all genders and backgrounds truly matters and will continue to be of high importance.
The Design & Research category presents interdisciplinary projects that show how science and research may creatively refer to and play an active role in graphic design.
In the Production & Publishing section everything revolves around the topic of print, here you will find exceptionally beautiful books, particularly refined annual reports, or high-quality embossed greeting cards. Here, the poster designer Dafi Kühne is interviewed; he was responsible for the cover of the first issue. He artfully combined old handicraft with modern elements, and even designed a corresponding poster, which is now available via the website.

Hati – Work in Progress
It all started with an elephant illustration for a product for children. The project was not implemented – the illustration and the knowledge that the graphic elements that make up the sketch offer a variety of possibilities remained.
The results are colorful illustrations, a font and numerous animations.
