  • Slanted #19 – Super Families veranstaltet ein großes Familienfest. Wir beschäftigen uns in dieser Ausgabe mit den großen Schriftfamilien (je nach Fall auch Schriftsippen genannt), deren Stammbäume eine erstaunliche Variationsvielfalt an den Tag legen. Sie zeichnen sich durch eine Vielzahl von Schnitten aus, die sich bis in die Extreme aufspreizen – ein Spektakel von Hairline bis Ultra Black mit Compressed zu Extended, da ist für jeden etwas dabei. Hinzu kommt, dass direkte Verwandte auch in Sans, Serif, Semi-Serif, Slab, Rounded, etc., vertreten sind. Desweiteren sprachen wir mit Albert-Jan Pool (Hamburg, DE) über die Zukunft der FF DIN und was er von anderen DIN-Schriften hält, Panos Vassiliou über seinen Schriftenverlag Parachute (Atheen, GR), Andreas Frohloff und Ivo Gabrowitsch (fontfont, Berlin, DE) über die Bedeutung von großen Schriftfamilien bei einem der international bedeutendsten Schriftenhäuser, Olaf Leu (Wiesbaden, DE) über die Aufgaben von Schriftsystemen, Thomas Marecki (Lodown, Berlin, DE / Blurb, San Francisco CA, US) über die Publikation “The Icons of Lodown”, Philippe Apeloig (Paris, FR) über seine Arbeit und was ihn inspiriert. Das achtseitige Klappcover zeigt neben historischen Familienfotos von Corbis etwas ganz Besonderes: einen Stammbaum der bedeutendsten modernen Schriftfamilien, den Indra Kupferschmid für uns aufgezeichnet hat.

Slanted Publishers is an internationally active publishing and media house founded by Lars Harmsen and Julia Kahl. They publish the award-winning print magazine Slanted, covering international developments in design and culture twice a year as well as other design-related projects and publications in the field of typography, contemporary art, and design. Since its establishment in 2004, slanted.de publishes events and news from an international design scene, job offers and interviews, and showcases inspiring portfolios from all over the world.
