Reaching Out of Reach | Play

In light of the social disconnection caused by the global pandemic, Span imagines a new visual platform that is a collaborative art experience. Digital canvases display simple compositions created by a group of virtual performers. The aesthetic takes visual and conceptual inspiration from the art movement of Suprematism (Russian: Супремати́зм)— which emphasizes “the supremacy of pure artistic feeling.” Suprematism was practiced during the world’s previous global pandemic around 1918.

No Borders / Just Colours

My work represents an utopic/dystopic flag, a mix of various flags coloured with “wrong” palettes. The lower part of the flag’s gone through a liquefying and then drying process. So the flag is depicted after this tumultuous, bizarre fabric metamorphosis, giving the result of an exhausted look, expressing excitement, but also tiredness. In this way, the drive for life and freedom meets a bitterness feeling. But the message is there, clear and unequivocal: no borders, let’s just admire the colours of the world. Let’s face the fact the we are all equally different, but always bond to each others. Let’s break mental barriers: this poster is the symbolization of that difficult process.

Reaching Out of Reach | Touch

As we quarantine, we feeling disconnected with those who we care about most. Span imagined an interface that communicates touch through light, animation, and warmth, allowing loved ones to share an embrace even if they are miles apart. As people touch the sphere, the location, duration, and intensity of the gesture is transmitted to a matching sphere in real time.

Young woman’s manifesto book

The book is about the importance of not fitting into the ideas or expectations of society. Instead, try to fit into yourself. Get to know yourself; find out what you feel good at; and stay true to it. Above all, stay free.

I chose orange color for the cover and inside the book. It’s like an orange sea. Orange color is associated with meanings of joy, encouragement, change, determination, freedom and expression. The are handwritten poems with abstract illustrations.

Der Erbsenzähler

Der Erbsenzähler (bean counter). Watercolor. Illustration for a childrens book citing old, almost forgotten proverbs and offering both the original and a fictitious meaning. The beancounter sits in his dungeonlike hideout and tinkers with his precious green peas which are soon going to become the worlds most sought after food.

Brilliant Together

Brilliant Together is a statement on the power of unity. Our voices and actions have the potential of reaching greater heights collectively than when working independently. Together, we can elevate one another as individuals and form a synergy that radiates brilliance. Let’s be brilliant together.

Ateliers Solstices, Musical Education for Kids, Brochure

For this reader differently coloured papers were used for a playful child-friendly look but also for an easy b/w-xerox-printing. Even the client can reprint the brochure in every copyshop. Also the format is adapted to that DIY-production-approach: A4 folded vertically. 8 sheets = 32 pages in total.

The colours also define and seperate the different sections in the brochure.

And because this educational program is for children, we’ve modified the client’s corporate font for a playful, slightly quirky expression.

Chicago Cannabis Council

Span designed the visual brand identity for the Chicago Cannabis Council (CCC), the region’s budding cannabis network. Founded to help ensure the success of the cannabis industry the council is assembled of cannabis businesses and professionals from every sector — healthcare to recreational, legal to policy, education to finance.

The brief put to Span was to design an identity that embraced concepts of connection, collaboration, and community while visually positioning the council at the frontline of the cannabis industry.

The identity Span designed centers on a series of concentric ’C‘s that form the ’CCC’ monogram around the cannabis leaf — symbolizing the council. Drawn with clean, prec

Patterns 0758

Patterns were originally made as a part of branding proposals for product design company but were rejected by the client. Abstract patterns should reflect on fluidness of the brand and give the more fun and unexpected twist. Patterns are made out of handmade collages, adjusted digitally.

eventhood

eventhood
These colors translate the vibrant event world into our brand eventhood.
The vibrant green is used for internal purposes of the platform itself, while the secondary colors are open for the service providers and locations. When joined by solid white & black, it creates a unique brand experience.

HOYOYO COLOR

Color fonts are dressed up with colors. It is different from general fonts which do not contain colors. The feast of colors pops up immediately when you type letters. Hangul, Korean writing system, is a logical script. However, Sandoll Hoyoyo is different from its characteristics – its only one rule is irregularity. As its each letter has a variable width, even if you type the same letters, the widths of them will be different. Although it was not a simple work, the designer colored every single stroke of all the 3000 letters manually. It has up to five colors in one letter, making it look like a patchwork. With Hoyoyo, you can enjoy the endless dynamics of colors.

Quarantino’s

Quarantino’s Ristorante (Q’s) had to adapt to survive the pandemic. Cue savior platforms promising to connect folks to food. Q’s had to make space for a greeting table of take-out, grouping a sea of brands all distinctly friendly, yet futuristic. Some co-opted Japanese design language and mashed it with Latin script. Others kept it uncomplicated. Outliers were playful. Q’s saw their life depended on this network.

It was tough to keep up with the logistics of salvation, let alone the salivation of hungry consumers.

This pseu(dodo)-progress, where pressure to recover fast displaces slower healing, bothered Q’s. Where are those who want to support their community without being plugged in?

the chewing gum machine

Life is like a chewing gum machine. Colorful and shrill, joyfully awaiting the coming surprise. A brief moment of pause. Put the coin in the slot and slowly turn the handle, the clack can be heard. Open the flap and there it is, the colorful surprise.

Dal ordin ala fatura

From order to invoice – what do I have to consider? The series of booklets ‘Begriffe des Handwerks in der ladinischen Sprache’ helps Ladin handicraft enterprises to communicate with clients and other companies. The booklets consist of two interlinked parts: a trilingual Glossary and a part with communication examples, such as invoices or cost estimates. Both parts each have a cover. The formal contents of the booklet are communicated using lively and colorful graphic language.

Ways Of Existence

The gradients represent the flow and existence of things. Combined with the pixel aesthetic of the main type, the elements morph into a visual compound that is meant to emphasize the deeper meaning that the four artists expressed as essence of the exhibition.
