More

This work was commissioned for the British musician Paul Weller and was released as a limited edition screen print. As a long time fan of Paul Weller’s music it was exciting to be able to visually respond to his song ‘More’ . The lyrics talk about ‘pushing up into the sky’ and I wanted to capture the feeling of expansion and floating away on an aspiration. Instead of having a figure in the illustration I used the letters of the word More make a face that is drifting away, framed by a pink sky and sunset, wanting more. The cautionary lyrics remind us that in floating away on our desires, eventually we need to come back down to reality again.

Anschlag Berlin

Anschlag Berlin is a collection of contemporary posters curated by Sven Lindhorst-Emme and Fons Hickmann. The exhibition was conceived as a traveling exhibition and was presented in the following cities: Lucerne, Berlin, Beijing, Macau, and Shanghai. Each exhibition poster has a different look, printed by Iris-silksreen technic.

BLOOM

What inspired me with the series was no matter what we face in life, we have the opportunity to shape it and bloom from our past. Hoping that what we have dreamed soon will be revealed to our naked eye.

Summer Workshops 2021

With Summer Workshops 2021 the Visual Communication Institute / The Basel School of Design offers workshops for students, educators, and graphic designers. The workshops afford insight into topical themes in Visual Communication in a study program reflecting the rich tradition of the Basel School of Design. Practical exercises with a high level of professionalism form the core of the workshops focus. Reflection as well as contextual knowledge will be conveyed by way of input sessions, allowing participants’ work to be judged within a contemporary, future-oriented, context relevant to professional practice. The trinational Rhine river valley is a unique cultural environment with easy access to France and Germany, and to sites such as the Vitra Design Museum (G), the Isenheimer Alter (F) or Ronchamp (F). In Basel the Fondation Beyeler, Tinguely Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Schaulager, and the Museum of Contemporary Art are world renown. Besides its museums Basel offers a rich mixture of cultural events.

Every week of the four week long event is another workshop, meaning you can attend four different workshops: Poster Design, lead by Leander Eisenmann, Inquiry by Design lead by Michael Renner, Type Design lead by Philipp Stamm, Algorithmic Design / P5 live lead by Ted Davis and Gregory Vines.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the workshops will take place under the FHNW Covid-19 protection concept. It will be decided in April 2021 whether the workshop will take place physically on campus in Basel or online in a distant learning format.

CALANCA BIENNALE 2021

The European tectonic plates under Calanca meet the African plates like a sandwich, in geological terms this is called “CROCODILE JAW” In that way the crocodile became an animal totem… The head of Calanca Biennale with the enormous support of the stone quarry Alfredo Polti SA, will implement a giant solid stone sculpure crocodile shaped.

The brief called for the poster to contain the slogan “Help! I’m burning!” (In reference to climate change) and a crocodile.

36 Days of Type

36 Days of Type is a project that invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of our alphabet. This was the 6th edition of the challenge and here you can see my interpretation.

Miami

This is my interpretation based on the warm and vibrant sunset of Miami Beach for Show Us Your Type, a creative platform where creatives can share their ideas through typography.

“la poésie est dans la rue en couleur pleine de vie„

A couple of years ago, during my travels, I decided to start a chromatic investigation. I started to gather every fleeting nuances that attracted my eye through my camera, in order to obtain an archive of visual analogies. Later, I created a project called “chromatic cases”: a network of distant places, intertwined by similar chromatic hues.
“la poésie est dans la rue en couleur pleine de vie„ is a graphic project that aims to represent RGB colours, black and white in a poetic way. Each composition is a tribute to a colour, picked somewhere around the world. Places and colours acquire meaning through the added words meant to narrate the poetry of each shot and evoke charming memories.

The Flaming Lips Gigposter Berlin

Just like their overwhelming live shows (“kids birthday parties for grown ups” with unicorns, aliens, Elvises (is that the plural?)) the Flaming Lips’ visual output follows one directive: “the more, the merry”. In order to stay up to par with the band’s artworks, we created our most colorful poster to date and certainly one of our proudest printing moments: 3 day-glo-colours, 1 metallic tint, one regular. We included as many creatures living within the band’s lyrics as possible:
Please meet the Berlunicorn. Bleeding rainbows from it’s eyes. And multi colored brain skulls. Eyes and eyes. Wait, are these wine gum fetuses?
It’s only that the CMYK images doesn’t do the poster justice.

Forward Festival Munich 2021 / Review

Originally planned to happen in Munich for the sixth time, Forward Festival Munich 2021 took place online as Forward Online Festival 2021.

Forward Online Festival was all about the transformation of society through digitization in the creative scene and an eye opener to the striking aspects of digitization—applied to design, creativity, and communication: Collaborative work, creative networking, the future of online marketing, digital new-business, VR / AR technologies, artificial intelligence, leadership, and positioning—all through lectures, panels, and workshops.

Since last years festival in Munich unfortunately had to be cancelled after one day due to Covid-19, and this year’s festival in Munich was initially planned as a regular festival as well, we were even more thrilled how great the event was converted into a digital format. This also gave international audience the chance to participate in the Forward Festival, resulting in the number of participants of over 5,000 creatives from all over the world.

Forward Festival delivered what it promised and provided an exciting, educational program. We listend to Graphic design guru Stefan Sagmeister, tried Ines Alpha’s beautiful 3D Make-Up, were super happy to get a glimpse into Esra Gulmen’s work, which we featured in our latest Slanted Magazine #36 COEXIST, got a pep talk by consulting mastermind Emily Cohen, were fascinated by the extensive insight into the work and life of photography icon Martin Parr, and listend to many more great talks. Thanks also to Kira Schinko for the excellent moderation and exciting interviews.

We hope that the next Forward Festival in Hamburg at the beginning of July will take place as planned in an hybrid on-site and online event!

Laternenbild 2 (detail)

light + matter = colour

Colour is bound to the refraction of light, it only exists for us through the interaction of light and material. As a painter I work with different substances like linnen, oilpaint, pigments and ink. To paint is to play with light and these substances.

Ame #13

Ame is an art&music event in Pula, Croatia. Silk-screen poster designed and printed by Oleg Morović. This poster is a homage to the american painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. The graphic was first painted on a canvas and then reproduced in serigraph print. Before screen printing the black color, yellow was added in acrylic paint with a brush so that every poster becomes unique.
